MEET OUR FOUNDER

Stephen Addison launched Box Up Crime in 2013.Having experienced the huge loss of valued friends to gang violence and crime, Stephen was inspired to create an organisation that would address the social issues affecting young people vulnerable to crime, and provide viable and positive alternative futures.

"WE WANT TO SEE ALL OF OUR YOUNG PEOPLE BECOME WORLD CHAMPIONS. NOT JUST IN BOXING, BUT IN LIFE."

the problems

1. Youth Violence

Every year, thousands of young people across the world are murdered as a result of youth violence. In London alone, there are more than 100 murders a year with some of the victims being as young as thirteen.

2. Lack Of safe spaces

There are also limited safe youth provisions in local communities where young people in inner cities can access enriching extra curricular activities which will help them develop their social skills and opportunities to a successful future.

3. need for education

Due to the rise of gang culture, young people are getting kicked out of school at a rapid rate, often leaving school without any qualifications which hinders them from gaining meaningful employment inevitably leading to a career of drugs and crime.

1. boxing

Sport has the power to change lives. We provide young people the opportunity to develop a skill in the sport of boxing. Affiliated with England boxing, young people benefit from learning the disciplined art of boxing in a safe and fun way. We are passionate about providing Box Up hubs to local communities. These hubs provide weekly free boxing sessions accessible for young people between the ages of 7–19.

how box up is impacting lives

Box Up Crime uses sport, and boxing in particular, as a tool to inspire, educate and develop young individuals. Since its inception, Box Up Crime has fostered a foundation for social change, raising awareness and building confidence in affected communities. Box Up Crime works closely with schools providing assistance to help with student behaviour and motivation, getting involved as early as possible in the development of an ‘at risk’ young person to help influence outcomes and improve their life chances.
